What Happens During a Discovery Session?

Taking the first step towards coaching or arranging development for your organisation can sometimes feel like a big decision. You may not be entirely sure what you need, how the process works or which approach would be most suitable.
That is why I believe it is important to begin with a conversation.

If You Are Considering Individual Coaching
A Discovery Session gives us an opportunity to talk about where you are in your life, what has brought you to coaching and what you would like to be different.
You do not need to prepare anything complicated or arrive with all the answers. It is simply a chance to talk through what is on your mind, ask questions and begin to understand whether coaching is the right fit for you.
We can explore what you would like to work towards and what may be making it difficult to move forward. From there, we can discuss a possible way forward and whether further sessions would be helpful.
There is no fixed package that everyone must follow. The number of sessions depends on your circumstances, what you want to explore and the support that seems appropriate.
My role is to help you understand your options, not to pressure you into committing to something that does not feel right.
If You Are Considering Support for Your Business or School
The first conversation is about understanding your organisation and the people you want to support.
I would want to know what has prompted the enquiry, what challenges you are seeing and what you hope might be different as a result of the work.
For example, a business may want to strengthen communication, encourage greater ownership or support its leaders through a period of change. A school may want to help students develop confidence, resilience or personal responsibility.
We would also discuss the audience, the time available and the most appropriate format. This might be a talk, a half-day or full-day workshop, a series of development sessions or individual coaching for selected people.
The intention is to understand the need before recommending a solution.
What Happens Next?
Once I have a clearer understanding of what you are looking for, I can suggest an approach that suits your circumstances and objectives.
For an individual, this may mean agreeing on the areas to explore through coaching and deciding whether further sessions would be useful.
For an organisation, it may involve outlining the proposed topics, format, timing and next steps. Where a programme involves several sessions, we can discuss how these might fit together and what each stage is intended to address.
Every person and organisation is different, so I do not believe in automatically applying the same process to everyone.
The Discovery Session is simply a starting point. It gives us the opportunity to understand what you need and decide on a sensible way forward together.
If you are considering coaching, a workshop or a development programme, I would be happy to hear from you.
